“Tanz mit Algiers!” exclaims the influential British webzine Quietus. A direct reference to the most important Slovenian music/art phenomenon Laibach (and their song “Tanz mit Laibach”) is right on point. As put by the Needle Drop: Algiers are taking the dark side of post-punk and, through the frustration and unrest of current-day politics, transforming it so well into catchy, stick-in-your-head songs that you can’t help singing along.
No fewer than 31 performers already announced
Over the past three years, MENT has established itself as a small, user-friendly festival with a rich and diverse programme. The final lineup of more than 60 performers from 25 countries will be announced in the middle of December. This year, the MENT conference attracted more than 450 music professionals (representatives of festivals, media, labels, agencies etc.), with an equal or even higher number anticipated by the organizers in 2018. The first key speakers announced are Helen Smith, Executive Chair of the IMPALA association of over 4,000 independent publishers, and Seymour Stein, a Vice President at Warner Bros. Records and the cofounder of Sire Records, who will share their views on the changes taking place in the music industry.
